What is FANDOM FEBRUARY?
The month of February can be traditionally described by most people as a month dedicated to love and passion. For the month of February, they are opening up to let people teach and present the knowledge they've picked up and learned from their time in various cultures, hobbies, and fandoms. Places that can be defined as homes where love and passion thrive. We do this in the hope of promoting and educating others about Japanese pop culture.
Toushin had a history of hosting face-to-face physical talks before with resource speakers about Japanese pop culture inside Ateneo de Manila University (ADMU), usually involving either Toushin staff or professors from the Ateneo Japanese Studies Program. Because of the pandemic, it has limited their availability to accomplish this, thus they came up with the concept of Fandom February to fill the gap left behind by the lack of presentations regarding Japanese pop culture. We accomplished this through Zoom and live streaming.
As the country has begun to slowly recover from the pandemic, schools and businesses have opened up once more. With that, Toushin wants to take the opportunity to host face-to-face events involving our members and the greater community of otakus everywhere. Fandom February will be only the second on-site event hosted by Toushin since the start of the pandemic, so we hope to make this one special!
