OtakuPlay had consistently featured various cosplayers throughout the years and we are starting 2023 by bringing back our appreciation for cosplayers. Let us welcome you to COSPLAYER PROFILES, SHIYO. She started cosplaying in 2013 when they had a cosplay event in school. Let's get to know more about Hazel Kirsten Pascasio aka SHIYO.
Introducing SHIYO
When did you start cosplaying?
I started from the year 2013 when we had a cosplay event in our school. Then I stopped because I don't really have funds yet for cosplaying. Then it's the first time I attended a cosplay event in SMX Convention last 2016, I just went there with a random wig and seifuku because I still don't have funds but I WAS REALLY HAPPY. I saw a lot of other cosplayers and they were like shining in my eyes, I can't really explain how happy I was back then. There were also a lot of people selling anime merchandises and other events like singing and acting in the stage. It was really mesmerizing. And then last year 2020, I was planning to go to conventions if there will be one but sadly, pandemic was on the way and all my plans for cosplaying were ruined. I was sad but I don't have any choice but to postponed it. I sold some of my cosplay-related stuffs so atleast I can buy some costumes and wigs. Then I had my first ever cosplay photoshoot also last year, in the month of December with my friend. We cosplayed Himiko Toga and Ochako Uraraka from My Hero Academia. I was really really happy that I can portray one of my favorite anime characters which is Toga. I was also happy making her props even though I have exams that time too while doing it. Overall I am so happy. ❤
Why do you cosplay?
Cosplaying has been my dream since I was a kid, because before like 10 years ago I started watching anime and I really like it. I told myself that someday, I will do cosplay if at least I can afford to buy some costumes and wigs. And here I am now, starting to cosplay some of my favorite anime characters and I truly enjoy it. I am genuinely happy when I cosplay.
What inspired you to cosplay?
Actually, the one who inspired me to cosplay was Ms. Alodia. I am a fan since many years ago. I remember I told myself before that I wanna be like her someday playing games, cosplaying, streaming, attending anime events, and photo shoots. And cosplaying was also my big dream since I was young.
What characters have you cosplayed?
Sailor Moon, Himiko Toga from BNHA, 002 from Darling in the Franxx (low budget), Mary Saotome and Ririka Momobami from Kakegurui and Shoto Todoroki from BNHA.

What is your best experience in cosplaying?
I guess my best experience was when I attended the convention in SMX last 2016. I was really really joyful to see other cosplayers😊
Any future plans or dreams?
I will continue pursuing cosplay and will attend conventions in the future. I just hope that this pandemic will come to an end. Also, my biggest dream is I wanna go back to Japan again and to cosplay there.
What is your message to other cosplayers?
To all my fellow cosplayers, I am so glad to see you guys enjoying cosplay. Just do what makes you happy as long as we are not hurting someone. Don't mind those negative comments, just be positive, be confident for who you are and most importantly just enjoy😊
