Burn The Witch, Same Universe But Different Story
The universe created by manga artist Tite Kubo was met with much praise. From the beautiful sceneries of Soul Society, the desolate Hueco Mundo, the well-known Human World, and the firey torturous realm of Hell, it comes to no surprise that Kubo had more in store. And his new story brings us to a new world called Reverse London.
First published as a one-shot on July 2018 in Weekly Shounen JUMP, BURN THE WITCH is another fantastical work of the big man himself. Set in the same universe as BLEACH, it tells the story of Ninny Spangcole and Noel Niihashi, two witches working for Wing Bind, the Western Branch of Soul Society which is located in Reverse London that's populated by dragons. After the success of the one-shot, a serialized continuation is being published in JUMP with a seasonal release date. The 4-chapter first season was published from August to September if 2020 with a second season of the manga being announced. This is to ensure that not only will the piece be in full quality, but also to give way to Kubo-sensei's recovery and return to serialization. This was one of the joint projects included with the 20th Anniversary Project of BLEACH so hopefully we expect an upcoming crossover happening soon with the residents of Karakura Town and the two witches. An anime film was released on October 2, 2020 based on the one-shot itself under Studio Colorido.
With its aesthetic art and storyline, it comes to no surprise that BURN THE WITCH is another one of Kubo's masterpieces. The beauty of the sceneries of Reverse London rival that of the design of Soul Society. Its characters are also a wide array of entertainment from the blone spunky Ninny and calm and collected Noel all the way to the Top of Horns Council. The design and prowess of the dragons are also amazing, being the equivalent if Kubo's master designs if the Hollows.
If you haven't read or seen the film, I advice you do give BURN THE WITCH a try. And if you have, it's time to do so again as we await the arrival of BLEACH's return to anime.
