AMX 2017 is Longest Otaku Event
Anime and Manga Expo (AMX) 2017 may just be the longest Japanese-culture related convention in the Philippines and worldwide. The 19-day event which ran from August 1-19, 2017 at SM Center Las Pinas features photo, toy collectibles and manga exhibit as well as weekend events for three weeks.
2017 marks the 100th year of Japanese animation which began in 1917. Among the most famous anime and manga which is also exhibited during the Anime and Manga Expo (AMX) 2017 is Astroboy. The 4-feet life-size Astroboy status is created by Jerry's Life-size Toys and Collectibles owned by Mr. Jerry Santos. Besides Astroboy, Voltes V and Uzumaki Naruto also gazed the event.
The anime toy collectibles exhibit was made possible by the collaboration of various collectors which includes Roderick Miravalles bringing his Gundan, Euraka 7, Cyborg 001, Dragonball and other collection. Jabe Real Villas meanwhile brought a Gundam Diorama to the event, while Jossa Manalili exhibited her collection of Pretty Cure items.
Naruto Cosplayers PH president, Ranne Tubig brought the famous Levi collectible from Shingeki No Kyojin. As our participation, we brought our collection of both Naruto and One Piece characters. There were also a full collection of Detective Conan manga by Lizzy May.
Reginan Kei Abang, an avid cosplayer contributed by bringing his very own collection of Neon Genesis Evangelion. You will surely notice that he is a fan of Rei Ayanami from the cute chibi collectibles to the serious ones.
Japanese Culture Appreciation Weekends
For three weeks, SM Center Las Pinas held Japanese culture appreciation. August 6 marked Japanese Music Appreciation where participants compete during the Japanese Karaoke Challenge. August 13 was Art and Manga Appreciation Day in which a competition for art was participated by more than 45 participants and in partnership with Graphic Artists Philippines (GAP). A voice acting workshop and contest was also held in partnership with the Dubbing Booth Company and Creativoices of Pocholo de Leon Gonzales.
August 19, the last day of the Anime and Manga Expo (AMX) 2017 was all about Cosplay Appreciation. Your Cosplay Sounds Familiar introduced the karaoke + cosplay format. Cosplayers then ramp on stage and show their characters during the AMX Cosplay Battle.
Anime and Manga Expo (AMX) 2017 is a Success
The 19-day exhibition had been a full success specially with a partnership with Animax Asia which brings more prizes and raffle to the event. Animax Asia also brought one of the coolest and most popular anime today, My Hero Academia through the standees of Deku and All Might.
We are hoping that next year AMX will again be an event. Thanks to everyone who supported the event including event partners such as CIIT College of Arts and Technology, Wazzup Pilipines, Arkadymac.com, Blue Pirate Channel, ANime PH, Ayaldev Creatives, Kawangis Komiks, Cosplay Against Bullying, Reverie Wonderland and Mayvish Crimson.
